SILK Surgery

SILK (Smooth Incision Lenticule Keratomileusis) is a refractive surgery method using the latest generation of Laser technology—a breakthrough in treating myopia and astigmatism without creating a corneal flap. This method uses an advanced Femtosecond Laser to carve out a lens-shaped biconvex lenticule inside the cornea based on proprietary technology from Johnson & Johnson, USA, and then extract that lenticule through a very small incision at the corneal periphery, helping restore optimal vision for the patient. The unique improvement in laser technology along with the biconvex lenticule design enables SILK to create seamless, smooth incisions with high precision, safety, and effectiveness, bringing a gentle, quick surgery and exceptional visual results.

SILK surgery is indicated for patients with myopia (with or without astigmatism) up to -12D, astigmatism up to -6D, with the total of myopia plus astigmatism ranging from -1.00D to -12.00D.

Elita Surgical System – A Breakthrough From The USA

Smallest Laser Spot Size
The laser beam measures 1 micron (µm), with a narrow, dense distribution of laser shots. This produces smooth, continuous incisions while minimizing time and force to remove the lenticule.
Lowest Laser Energy
SILK uses laser pulses with minimal energy (about 40–90 nJ) on the cornea—among the lowest of current laser devices—with an extremely short pulse duration (100–200 femtoseconds). This reduces heat spread to surrounding tissues, lowers the risk of thermal damage, and promotes faster healing.
Fastest Laser Speed
The laser operates at an ultra-fast frequency of 10 MHz , with only 1 micron between consecutive laser pulses, requiring just 16 seconds to create a precisely sealed lenticule without gaps, thus shortening the surgical time.

Biconvex Lenticule
The biconvex lenticule design ensures the front and back surfaces align without leaving corneal folds after extraction. This helps reduce higher-order aberrations. Because more corneal tissue around the edges is preserved, it better maintains corneal biomechanical strength and allows faster nerve regeneration, as fewer corneal fibers are cut.

How Does SILK Surgery Work?
1/3
Step 1 – Creating the Lenticule
SILK uses the ELITA laser to gently create a small, disc-shaped piece of tissue (lenticule) in the cornea.
2/3
Step 2 – Making the Incision
A tiny incision is created at the cornea periphery using the laser.
3/3
Step 3 – Removing the Lenticule
The lenticule is gently removed through the incision. This reshapes the cornea and corrects the patient’s vision.

Advantages Of Silk Surgery

1. Gentle Surgical Experience: Thanks to smooth, seamless cuts, the lenticule extraction process is quick, minimizing discomfort during and after surgery.

2. Short Surgical Time: Each eye requires only 16 seconds of laser time and around 10 minutes for the entire procedure, saving time and making it more comfortable for patients.

3. Quick Recovery: The smooth, flawless incisions rapidly seal, allowing patients to regain optimal vision within just 24 hours.

4. Outstanding Visual Quality: The biconvex lenticule eliminates corneal folds, combined with smooth laser cuts that reduce higher-order aberrations, resulting in crisp, clear vision.

5. Minimized Dry Eye: The corneal nerve fibers on the surface and periphery are mostly protected, preserving the tear film and thus reducing postoperative dry eye.

6. Comprehensive Corneal Protection: The low-energy laser technology and short laser exposure decrease tissue damage. The exclusive biconvex lenticule design preserves corneal collagen fibers and nerve structures, maintaining biomechanical strength and providing maximum corneal protection.

Am I Suited For SILK Surgery?

What Should I Do Before My Surgery

  1. DO NOTuse contact lenses before examination and surgery: at least 1 month for Orthor K overnight contact lenses, 2 weeks for soft and daily contact lenses.
  2. EAT AND DRINK normally, do not use alcohol or stimulants on the day of surgery. Continue using your prescription drugs.
  3. NO apply makeup and use cosmetics, keep your eyes and face clean on the day of surgery.
  4. DO NOT wear tight pullovers or shirts made of fur
  5. GET enough sleep and stay comfortable.
  6. DO NOT drive by yourself on the day of the surgery.
“It's a blissful moment for us to see the joy in patients’ eyes and to listen to each patient's experiences after their myopia surgery. It motivates us to make more efforts on our journey with young people to liberate their eyes from their glasses and help them to enjoy life more freely.”
